fashion devotion gone to far?
This picture is an open display of the uncanny devotion that people feel for brand named items. This picture shows (as you can clearly see) a man with a Nike swoosh carved and sewed into his face. The artist uses a strong sense of exaggeration to get his point across, using not only the world famous Nike symbol, but also an almost primal branding technique on a human being. The message of this image is disturbingly clear--people become literally branded by their wants for material goods. It is needless to say that anyone can tell that this man's decision is a painful, society encouraged, and self conflicting one. Personally, I believe that the Nike company itself would feel insulted by this type of publicity. They are being portrayed simply as owners of the masses. Those who promote individuality would agree because of the display of undying fashion devotion. The artist is obviously making a statement towards today's "fashion fanatics" by alluding their passion for fashion to pain. This picture is persuasive because of it makes you think about the power that a simple symbol or name can have over an individual.
Should schools have a vocational track?
In this day and age it is very important to be able to make a living. However, not everyone is cut out to go to college. The vocational track helps high school students learn and become qualified for a trade. For this reason I think that schools should have a vocational track. In the passage we read that a student named Jimmy does not want to go to college. The vocational track gives him the credentials that he needs to make it in the world. The vocational track is perfect for students like Jimmy.
If you were a parent, would you buy a doll that misrepresented your values?
If i were a parent, I would not buy a doll that misrepresented my values. A lot of the time so much emphasis is put on the superficial things in society. Dolls that represent those ideals are inappropriate for young girls. This is the main reason that I would not buy one of these dolls for my daughter. For example, Barbie tells children that you are supposed to grow up to be thin, pretty, with long hair. If you don't grow up to look like that your child's self esteem can be drastically lowered. I do not support these dolls.
should handguns be illegal?
I think that handguns should be legal. We live in an extremely dangerous society and it is important to protect yourself. For this reason I think it would be a good idea to have legal handguns as long as they are registered. If they are unregistered and from the street i think that it is a bad idea. That's how i feel about legal handguns.
